Guanggu, Wuhan’s Famous Fake Church

Located in the World City Plaza shopping center, this huge fake cathedral embodies numerous contradictions. A religious monument in an officially atheist country, and a church supporting consumerism in a communist country. Regardless, it has become a must-see site when visiting Wuhan.

Wuhan’s fake cathedral once included a Burger King. I ate there many times back in 2020, but it closed as a result of the covid-lockdowns and the subsequent economic consumption decline.
