Statues at East Lake

East Lake is Wuhan’s most famous park area. It is often compared to the West Lake in Hangzhou. The government has recently erected several modernist statues and monuments around the park as part of a bid to resurrect Old China’s historical culture. Interestingly, the statues and friezes are not built with traditional Chinese wooden methods but employ Western style stonework. Most of the East Lake park area has been newly constructed over the last couple decades.
